Chronic self-criticism
When the inner voice stays harsh, and self-criticism feels like the only way to stay motivated or safe.
Chronic self-criticism can sound like realism: if I am hard on myself, I will not disappoint anyone else.
Over time, that voice erodes motivation, pleasure, and connection. You may hesitate to share struggles because you already feel judged internally.
Self-criticism often mimics a critical caregiver, teacher, or culture, internalized long before you could question it.
Therapy does not replace accountability with empty positivity. It helps you develop standards that include dignity, not only pressure.
