Relationship Patterns

Attachment styles

A plain-language look at attachment patterns in adulthood, anxious, avoidant, secure, and the mixed spaces in between.

Attachment style describes how you tend to respond when relationships feel close, uncertain, or strained, not who you are forever.

Anxious patterns often include seeking reassurance and scanning for distance. Avoidant patterns may emphasize independence and minimize needs. Many people move between both depending on context.

These patterns usually made sense at some point. They are strategies for getting care, staying safe, or managing disappointment, not character flaws.

Understanding attachment language can reduce shame and create a clearer map for what you are trying to protect in relationships now.
